The Italian premier, Giorgia Meloni, will offload around 270 items bestowed upon her by international figures while abroad. The eclectic collection could include gifts including a chainsaw-wielding statuette of Argentinian president Javier Milei and a pair of exotic blue snake-skin shoes with gold heels.

These items, collectively, have an approximate value of €800,000. The plan is to sold in a public auction by a Italian fine art auction house. A date has not been finalized, although the goal is to conduct the sale during the holiday season, with the revenue benefiting various charities.

Storage Room Treasures

These gifts are currently stored in a storage room on the upper level of Palazzo Chigi. It has been reported that Meloni is also intending to auction off gifts given to her political forerunners that have been gathering dust indefinitely.

The full gift list remains made public, but partial details were revealed earlier this year when a comprehensive document of all declared gifts was submitted to lawmakers. The query centered on if a rule restricting expensive presents was being respected. According to regulation, a prime minister is not permitted to keep presents exceeding €300.

Notable gifts feature:

• A woven wrap from the Albanian prime minister, allegedly given to Meloni for her birthday during a meeting abroad.
• A customary Indian garment from the Indian leader.
• A case of jewelry from the president of Slovakia.
• A fine china tea service and six bottles of wine from Hungary's leader.
• A ceramic bowl from the former US president.
• A tablet from the leader of Ukraine.
• Paintings from the Moldovan government.
• Various other items including cosmetics, a board, and several rugs from trips to Libya and other Arab nations.

"Possibly the most unusual gifts included the Milei figurine and the blue python skin shoes," one might note.

Political Context

Meloni has been credited, mostly from her own political sphere, with winning over foreign leaders and positioning Italy as a key protagonist on the international platform once again.
