It represents an gut-wrenching two or four moments of sheer theatre, when all of pre-contest discussion ultimately concludes.
"To set the tone for the entire contest would prove really remarkable," remarked English paceman Gus Atkinson when asked regarding the possibility this week.
"I understand there have been multiple historic first-ball instances in Ashes cricket history. The chance to join that tradition would be incredible."
